Chasing Wild Horses
The award-winning documentary Chasing Wild Horses, chronicles Roberto Dutesco's exploration of Sable Island and has been broadcast in over 40 countries.
Roberto first learned about Sable Island and its wild horses in 1994 and made his first trip to the island that same year - A perilous journey by small plane from Halifax and a beach landing brought him to this remarkable island. Over the course of several visits, he captured the beauty and isolation of the wild horses and their austere habitat through still photography and 16-mm film.
With the international exposure of Roberto’s photographs, documentary film and conservation efforts, Sable Island is now Canada’s 43rd National Park and the horses have official protection. Because the new laws require that any visitor must stay 65 feet away from the horses, the film and Dutesco’s photographs, many of which are unreleased, may very well be the last to capture these truly wild creatures in such an intimate way.
SABLE ISLAND - A 25 YEAR JOURNEY CAPTURED BY ROBERTO DUTESCO
The Wild Horses of Sable Island®
Far from the East Coast of Canada, cast ashore or abandoned by sailors long ago, a small herd of wild horses has managed to thrive, untouched by man, in an austere, unforgiving environment that offers not a single sheltering tree and just grass and rainwater ponds for sustenance.
